If couldn't submit my assignment/assessment on time due to a personal situation. Am I still able to submit it?

If you couldn’t submit your assignment on time due to a personal situation, you may still be able to submit it, but there are certain conditions. According to the Australian Institute of Advanced Technologies (AIAT), late submissions will attract penalties unless an extension has been agreed upon by the Subject Coordinator or Course Director. You can apply for an extension of up to two weeks via the LMS (Learning Management System) before the due date, and you must attach supporting documents.

If you need more than two weeks of extension, you will need to fill and submit the Special Consideration Form with your professor's approval to your course director as soon as you know that you will need a longer period to submit your assignment/assessment.

Can I study part-time?

Yes, you are eligible to take on a part-time study load under certain circumstances. However, there are important processes we must follow to ensure everything is in order.

  • Impact on Course Completion Date: If your change to a part-time study load affects your ability to complete your course within the current Course of Enrolment (COE) end date, we will need to update your COE. This will be confirmed with a thorough review of your study plan.
  • Study Plan Review: As soon as you opt for a part-time study load, your study plan must be reviewed to determine if you can still finish within your current COE end date. If it is evident that you cannot complete your studies within the original timeframe, we will proceed with updating your COE accordingly.
  • Required Documentation: When you apply for a part-time study load, you must provide documentation explaining the reasons for your request. This documentation will be essential in processing your application and ensuring that all necessary adjustments are made.
  • A new COE extending the program duration can only be issued under the following exceptional circumstances:

How do we use your personal information

We use your personal information to enable us to deliver courses to you, and otherwise, as needed, to comply with our obligations as an institute.

Disclosing your personal information

AIAT is required to comply with legal and regulatory obligations, including disclosure and reporting to Commonwealth, State and Territory government agencies for planning, evaluative, administrative, and funding purposes. This means your personal information may be disclosed to:

  • Disclosure and reporting to Commonwealth and State government agencies for the purpose of administrating entitlements to financial assistance under Commonwealth and State government programs for supporting students.
  • Government agencies responsible for administrating and regulating education and training providers in Australia, such as Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), Tuition Protection Service (TPS);
  • Tuition assurance scheme providers; and
  • To government agencies with responsibility for administering immigration and student visa arrangements (including disclosure of suspected breaches of student visa conditions).

What is the difference between deferment, suspension and cancellation of enrolment?

At AIAT, an international student’s enrolment can be deferred, suspended or cancelled, as per Standard 9 of the National Code of Practice.

 

Deferring your enrolment

If you've been offered a place in a course, you can ask to delay your start for up to a year. You can do this before you accept the offer, after you accept it, or after the issuance of a Confirmation of Enrolment, but prior to the start of the first study period.

An international student who has failed to obtain a visa and/or to arrive before the start of the first study period of study may also apply for a deferment.

Suspending your enrolment

If you need to take some time off from your studies, you can apply for a Leave of Absence. You need to have completed a minimum of two (2) subjects. Normally the duration of your leave will be for a study period or longer and will need to be approved by the Course Director.

Shorter periods of leave should be discussed with the Course Director.

Cancelling your enrolment

A student’s enrolment can be cancelled when the student has:

  • failed to re-enrol
  • an incomplete enrolment
  • applied for a course withdrawal
  • been expelled
  • exceeded the maximum course duration
  • failed to pay the prescribed fees by the payment due date
  • failed to comply with international student visa conditions
