AIAT at the Forum of AI-empowered UN Sustainable Development Goals

Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds transformative potential for advancing the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by tackling some of the world’s most critical challenges. Prof. Gjoko Muratovski, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at AIAT, was invited to join the Forum of AI-Empowered Sustainable Development Goals held in Shanghai. This forum examined the role of AI in driving progress on the UN SDGs, with a focus on addressing urgent global economic, social, and environmental challenges. By encouraging cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, and cross-sector collaboration, the forum sought to inspire innovative solutions and forge global partnerships. It highlighted emerging trends, theories, methods, and tools for AI-empowered SDGs across three key areas:
  1. Design, economy, and innovation
  2. Carbon neutrality and climate change
  3. Smart cities and new infrastructures
As part of his contribution, Prof. Muratovski authored a White Paper titled “Transforming the Future: AI and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).” This report explores how AI can accelerate progress toward achieving the SDGs, with a focus on climate action, healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation. It proposes the development of a global AI-powered sustainability platform to enhance data integration, predictive analytics, and targeted interventions. Additionally, the report evaluates existing initiatives, identifies potential challenges, and offers actionable recommendations for stakeholders committed to this transformative agenda.
